Open (Essence of Thyme)

The little bright yellow motorbike rattled and purred as Bessie pulled up to the cafe. She shut it down, knocked the kickstand into place and pulled the yellow and black helmet off, tossing her hair and looking curiously at the building. She didn't normally go for the artsy/coffee housey style eatery but something about this place called to her. So, with a dismissive shrug she tucked the helmet under her arm and entered the place.

There seemed to be a low-key buzz to the place. Overlapping conversations that weren't whispered but were definitely quiet. She gave the place a once-over, spotting a comfy looking seat near the window that she hoped would still be open by the time she had received her order. There fortunately wasn't much of a line, so she went straight on up and ordered a fruit smoothie and a slice of banana bread.

(OOC: Just trying to get a feel for the new character!)

 This is Bessie
Bessie

Bessie started life as a regular example of the Siva Edwardian Roadster E39A Ford Popular chassis built in the late 1960's. There was nothing special about it until it was picked up and heavily modified by the scientific advisor of the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce. An alien stranded on Earth with a compulsive need to tinker, its abilities soon outpaced all other vehicles around it. The Doctor, as he was called, grew very fond of the 'old girl' and relied on her to get her in and out of many scrapes.
Sadly, once the Doctor's exile was lifted and he had full use of his time/space machine again, it wasn't long before he took off and UNIT had Bessie put into storage, with her only making the occasional appearances on special occasions. Like one of the Doctor's increasingly rare return visits.

Now she is Elizabeth "Bessie" Ford
From an early age, Bessie had a very strong affinity for mechanical things. At three years old she had already picked up a screwdriver and removed the doorknob to the bathroom, stranding her father inside for two and a half hours until her mother got home from work. She and her family moved from Summerset, England to Brooklyn, New York when she was six. Bessie had a hard time adjusting to life and withdrew socially for a while, spending most of her time with her cousin Dylan or dismantling and rebuilding everything from radios to lawnmowers in the garage.
Throughout her schooling she took summer jobs with garages, electronics shops or anything that would allow her to tinker, drive, or generally deal with mechanical things.
For her sixteenth birthday her parents bought her a bright yellow motorbike with a matching helmet and leather jacket and she almost never went anywhere without it. She named it 'Doc'  and her family referred to her yellow and black riding apparel as her 'bee' outfit.

Bessie is studying at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. She's rooming with her Art student cousin Dylan and is usually seen fiddling or tinkering with mechanical or electronic things. She wears sturdy glasses partly for vision correction but mostly for protection from various projects and despite frequent and vigorous washing, her fingers are often flecked with oil stains.
